Dear Environmental Protection and Natural Resource Management Partners:

On behalf of the Federally-recognized Tribes in New England, we would like to invite you the 9th Annual New England Tribal Environmental Training Conference. The conference will be held at the
Venice Restaurant in Westerly, RI, on October 29-31, 2007. The theme for this year’s conference is “Mother Earth: Respect Her, Protect Her”.

This year we are attempting to revive Inter-Agency agreements by have a discussion on the development of a Federal Agency Workgroup. The goal of conducting such discussions will be to provide an opportunity for Federal agencies to become knowledgeable of Tribal environmental and natural resource management work and how the agencies can assist Tribes with restoration and protection of important Tribal natural resources. The goal of the discussions will be to encourage and forge new partnerships between Tribes and the various government agencies to assist Tribes to restore and protect ecosystems to improve and sustain Tribal health and culture.

In keeping with the nature of our conference and to reduce the environmental impact of our conference, we will be following the principles of “green conferencing.” Accordingly, we will be utilizing the Internet and e-mail to the greatest extent possible for distribution of conference notices, conference registration, and links to electronic information associated with conference discussion topics. All of this information is available at the
conference web page

Also, in light of the current budget constraints facing many organizations, we have attempted to try and minimize travel expenses for conference participants. In particular, the conference meals charge is $50 to attend the full conference or $25 per day for all Federal Employees. No registration is required for Tribal Representatives and non-federal conference presenters. For your convenience, attached are a conference registration form, conference agenda, and travel and lodging information.

We look forward to your participation in this important conference. If you have any questions or need additional information concerning the conference, please contact the Narragansett Indian Tribe’s Department of Natural Resources/Planning at (401) 364-1100, extension 210.

Sincerely,

Matthew Thomas
